Dear Supervisor Cale:

Thank you for the opportunity to speak briefly at the Outdoor Recreation Plan Workshop on August 24, 1999.

I would like to reiterate the points I attempted to make at the workshop.

First, I would like to commend your Regional Park staff for the long and difficult public process they used to formulate the recreation plan. I do support their conclusions.

As I stated, I think the most important thing State Parks can do in Sonoma County is to link the existing State Parks and other Open-Space propertites by the trail/wildlife corridor system.

This needs to be done in a partnership with Sonoma County, State Parks, the Bay Ridge Trail Council and other interested organizations and individuals. I hope that the Board of Supervisors will agree that this is a priority for all of us.

A trail connecting Jack London State Historic Park to Annadel State Park and another connecting Annadel to Sugarloaf Ridge State Park will be important recreational assets for the county.

The trail corridor from Petaluma Adobe to Jack London State Historic Parks needs to be part of the recreational plan. I know this is a controversial route but it is an especially important segment of any county-wide trail system. It is part of our heritage -- it was used by General Vallejo's workforce at Petaluma and the Mission workers. Walking and horseback use of this route is an important part of our history that should be perpetuated.

Sincerely,
